What can I do to help on the ground? Which environmental organizations do you recommend?
Hi Melissa – I tend to support the groups that bring the lawsuits. In the case of alleged mishandling of Piney Point, that was primarily Tampa Bay Waterkeeper and the Center for Biological Diversity, and Suncoast Waterkeeper. I’m going to refer your question about helping hands-on to my friend Dr Nick Aumen who has a long history in both science and activism on behalf of Florida wildlife. Nick?
A few that come to mind: One Lagoon (https://onelagoon.org/seagrass-monitoring); Save the Manatee Club (https://www.savethemanatee.org); Earthjustice (https://earthjustice.org). I am sure there are others, but these would be good places to start. Thanks for being interested!

It was a remarkable experience, so close you could hear the little sweet face slurping! I don’t know anything about social media, but that would be fun to have a video of her get a lot of attention as a way to Promote awareness of the manatees dire situation. Please feel free to share the video!
